Letter to the UK Foreign Secretary - replenish the Global Fund

Written by UKAPTB

We are calling on Rt. Hon Liz Truss MP and Secretary of State for the Foreign, Commonwealth and Development Office (FCDO) to pledge £1.8bn over 3 years to the replenishment of the Global Fund to fight AIDS, TB and Malaria. Read our full letter here.

Before the COVID-19 pandemic, TB was the world’s deadliest infectious disease, with 10 million cases and 1.5 million deaths in 2020 alone, including 200,000 children. This situation has only worsened throughout the pandemic

The Global Fund is one of the world’s most impactful multilateral organisations, saving over 44 million lives since its founding in 2002. In countries where the Global Fund invests, the number of deaths from HIV, TB and Malaria have reduced by 46% since 2002.

The FCDO can play a leading role in the Global Fund replenishment campaign, bringing together partners and allies from around the world to make a significant pledge which sufficiently accounts for the scale of the challenge we are facing.
