MPs to Debate Ending TB in House of Commons on 7th June

May 25th, 2018

Thanks to some very hard work and persuasive arguments from the All Party Parliamentary Group on Global Tuberculosis (APPG-TB), the exciting news has just been announced that up to three hours on 7th June has been set aside in the House of Commons for a debate on Ending TB.

With just a short time to prepare, the Group is asking for your help to make this debate really count – read on to find out how you can get involved.

Awareness of tuberculosis among UK MPs has increased greatly in recent months as we move towards September’s UN High-Level Meeting.  This undoubtedly has been aided by TB academics, professionals, researchers, students and interested members of the public taking the initiative and lobbying their constituency MPs to join the growing group of politicians supporting this cause.

We now need your help to seize this rare opportunity and get as many MPs as possible to attend the session, armed with the facts about this brutal disease and, crucially, what can and should be done about it.

Please contact the MP(s) local to your institution and home address and urge them to to take part (and – important! – please follow up your letters and emails with a phone call as MPs’ offices are inundated with matters competing for their attention).  You can find out who your MP is via a simple search on  Please get in fast as their diaries fill up very quickly!

Janika Hauser of RESULTS UK has put together a briefing note which can be used to accompany or inform letters, emails and other direct contacts to constituency MPs.  You can download the briefing document here.
